Chad Tobin (b. 1976) is a photographer based in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Tobin’s visual focus lies within using a small rangefinder camera and bringing a curiosity to each situation he encounters.

In the summer of 2015 he travelled to Japan and began working on a book entitled ‘Tokyo Ice Cream’ that deals with the melancholic appreciation of transiency with people he encountered through happenstance.

Following his time in Tokyo, Chad has been working extensively on two distinct projects based in Cape Breton. ’To Be Frank’ explores a Ten-year friendship with photographer Robert Frank and his connection to the landscape of Nova Scotia with themes of love, loss, and the simplicity of existence. ‘St. Valentines’ is a look at the island of Cape Breton and the dual existence of the real and accessible one that is imagined.
